Hello Friends,
I am now back in the north. That's a story for another day. In my other life and career, I spend time traveling to visit college campuses. I had just visited Washington and Lee (one of my favorite colleges) in Lexington, VA , along with Virginia Military Institute, another one of my favorites. (Literally right next to each other.) As we are exiting Lexington, we are driving through the business district and lo and behold, there before me is a makeup shop called, Let's Make Up. Lucky for me we are at an intersection and my driver, Helio, needs to make a call, so I coyly suggest that he park and make that call. My heart was racing. The street was quaint, old, charming, enticing and the shop beckoned me inside. What a day!
Let's Make Up is a visual delight. The displays were works of art and the variety of products lines is very impressive. Lots of items that I rarely get to see close up. I love Sephora, but Let's Make Up was so personal and friendly. Kristen, the sales associate, was so helpful. Being a proper southern woman she knew all about her products and was enthusiastic about the merchandise, life, Lexington, VA and smiled nonstop. Beautiful, but approachable and friendly she demonstrated that southern charm and hospitality that is just perfect from a sales associate. Now if you can envision me rushing into the store on a mission, out of breath, talking a mile a minute; how overwhelming! "Try figuring out what I am asking, Kristen." I don't know myself. Usually the questions just flow one after the other without giving the sales associate even time to answer one. Kristen went with the flow; she knew the language. I left with two products that I have been searching for that will also help Dolley's friends who are allergic to sunscreen. How lucky was that. All I had to say to Helio was "it was meant to be." Helio was happy because he made his successful call. I was only helping him by taking that time. (Really I bet it wasn't even a half hour. Kristen got the sense of urgency.)
Colorscience. It is a mineral powder based sunscreen that covers and protects. For the past couple of years I have been using Colorscience and loving it. The major ingredients are titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. I have been using Not too Deep for my skin color (medium) which gives me a natural hint of color; during the winter when I have no color, even in the south, I sometimes switch to California Girl. On this quick stop I purchased the All Clear, no color, to use when I am in the sun a bit longer than expected and need to touch up my protection. It is very water resistant. The product has a brush attached to apply the powder. I also purchased the roller ball in Perfectly Clear which has a suggestion of color. The roller ball works great on my arms and legs as well as my face. Did I say I LOVE this product. . . .no irritations, no chemicals, great packaging, but a pretty pricey, but it is worth it as the product lasts for a long time.
I then had a product to play with for the many miles ahead. Of course, once I hit the Northeast I wonder if I ever will use this product.
Dolley, I would strongly suggest that instead of using that other mineral product, that your friends try this one first and as you can see from the reviews, the product actually improves your skin.

I want to know about your driver, HELIO! Cute? Young? Cougar bait? I'm just playing with you because I know that we're not cougars, only because we're both happily married, but one can carry on a good fantasy, can't she? I believe fantasies are healthy and come recommended by Drs. Johnson and Masters (gossip tidbit: didn't the two famous sex docs get a divorce? I don't know why, but could it be unresolved sex difficulties...?) Talking about SEX, I was introduced to a man who's actual last name is Sex - William Sex - and I thought, there's a name I will remember! He's not American - not a big name in the US. In fact, since I was curious, I looked up the last name of 'Sex' for the entire country and there is only 1 entry - Alan Sex in Illinois - bet he gets alot of jokes. Rough to be the only one...
Other names, besides Helio, that are pretty rough, are Lorna Boozer, bad enough, but turned into pig latin to Borna Loozer. You would think a parent would see that one coming... And there are plenty of rough last names - Crap, Crapper, Horr, Gross, Pig, Dog, Butt - isn't it hard enough to grow up without the added burden of an 'unusual' name to make it harder? Post a comment on names in the comment section. Now that we are all grown up and past the tough childhood years, a nice name story will bring a smile.
Well, it's about time to haul 'butt' downstairs and begin to exercise. We have every contraption known to Dick's Sporting Goods in our basement, but they have yet to invent a machine that will walk you downstairs, envelop itself around you, and force you to use it for 45-continuous minutes without any effort on your part. Come to think of it, my bed has a lot of those qualities... After watching my dog die literally from lack of exercise - yes, I killed a dog by NOT WALKING IT for years, not death due to misuse, but of unuse - I watched him weaken to the point of not being able to sustain his weight on his back legs, his muscles were that atrophied. Now, yes, he was 14 years old, and yes, I was very busy for those 14 years raising kids, and yes he was only a dog and the humans had higher priority, but I still felt TERRIBLE at the end (of course I would have to be the one there at the bitter end) when I realized it was largely MY fault, for bringing him home as a rescue puppy then not walking him. Ever. But worse than that, was my sudden realization that his end was foreshadowing my own end (I told you the benefit of fantasies, and not all fantasies are about sex!) if I don't start exercising! It may have been too late for the dog - he was 98 in people years - but I'm only roughly half that age - I can still make the save! But I have to start NOW. I say that I'm going to do this every single year through my 40s at New Year's resolution time, up to and including my 50s, but this time I MEAN it! The dog didn't die for nothing. It was a sign from God (me, the non-religious one, invoking God, means I'm really off the deep end). I can and will change. If only I will go downstairs to the Dick's showroom, stop keyboarding, get off the chair, put one foot in front of the other....
